Today, in an official taxpayer-funded capacity, Deputy Mayor and Spadina–Fort York Councillor Ausma Malik delivered a deeply alarming speech from within Toronto City Council chambers to a group of activists and NGO representatives. In it, she demanded the “dismantling of systems of colonialism” and the immediate “regularization” of all undocumented immigrants, migrants, and workers in Toronto—effectively advocating to grant full rights and status to individuals who are in the country illegally.
Even more disturbing, Malik referred to these undocumented individuals as “Torontonians” and claimed they are entitled to the same city services paid for by tax-paying Canadian citizens. She further suggested that up to half a million undocumented people are living in Toronto—a staggering admission that raises questions about public safety, infrastructure strain, and the integrity of our national borders.
This speech was delivered while Malik was on the clock, using public funds and the prestige of elected office to push what many view as an anti-Canadian, law-defying agenda. Her remarks insult the thousands of immigrants who entered this country legally—many of whom underwent years of vetting, study, work, and sacrifice to earn their status. The speech concluded with calls to “end white supremacy” and “dismantle systems,” prompting a raucous ovation from the invited activist audience.
IntegrityTO categorically condemns this reckless and divisive rhetoric. To suggest handing out legal status to those who have wilfully bypassed our immigration system is not just a gross violation of the rule of law—it is a slap in the face to every citizen and legal immigrant who plays by the rules.
A major online poll with over 22,000 participants found that an overwhelming 95% of respondents were appalled by Malik’s actions and statements, branding them as a severe abuse of public trust.
